Okay, so, for the most part, I have unrestricted internet access at work. Yay!
But, "they" see fit to block some sites, which I guess is understandable - to a degree. They block the porn and the gambling sites, and that's fine.
But I've noticed that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what they block. A few years ago, they blocked sillygirl.com and I found that, at the time, they were blocking ALL sites with the word "girl" in the URL.
They do NOT block sites like match.com or Yahoo Personals, as I found out a few weeks ago when former co-worker Miguel was surfing those sites. Hmmm...wonder if that's part of the reason he's "former".
But I found today that I can't get to unclebob's diary.
Okay, what? Is "uncle" a bad word now? Or is it "bob"?
I wrote to a buddy of mine in the IT department just to get some insight into HOW they come up with these things. I don't expect anything to change though; it is what it is, after all....but it would be nice to know WHY it is what it is.
